The weather in Hong Kong has been relatively cool in recent days, with only 11.8 degrees recorded at Tai Mo Shan this (10th) morning.

According to the Observatory, the easterly current affecting the coast of South China will gradually ease in the next two or three days.

At the same time, as the high-altitude anticyclone strengthened, the area was generally clear and the temperature rose.

It is expected that another easterly airstream will affect the coast of Guangdong in the middle and late next week, with more cloud cover in this area; and a trough of low pressure will bring unstable weather to southern China, with cloudy and rainy days starting next Thursday (15th).

In addition, European and American forecasting systems both predict that tropical cyclones will be generated in the sea east of the Philippines later in the next week. European forecasts have updated the tropical cyclone's path to the west and may have the opportunity to enter the South China Sea.

The Observatory pointed out yesterday (9th) that there are still many variables.

The US forecast predicts that the minimum sea-level pressure of the tropical cyclone is 910 hPa, which has reached the level of a super typhoon.

Temperatures in many districts dropped to "1"

The weather in Hong Kong was cool this morning. The lowest temperature recorded in the urban area was 20.2 degrees at the Observatory. Sha Tin, Tsuen Wan, Kwun Tong and other districts fell below the "2", and Tai Mo Shan was as low as 11.8 degrees.

The Observatory pointed out that a fresh to strong easterly airflow is affecting the coast of Guangdong.

At the same time, the southeastern coast of China is generally sunny, and the relative humidity in most parts of Hong Kong in the afternoon is maintained at about 50%.

The Observatory predicts that it will gradually turn cloudy this evening, and there will be sunshine during part of the day tomorrow (11th).

The temperature ranged from 21 to 26 degrees, and the weather was dry; the blowing moderated to a fresh easterly wind, with strong winds blowing offshore at first.

It is expected that there will be some sunshine in the next one or two days, the weather will be hot during the day, and there will be more clouds in the middle and late next week.

The Observatory expects sunshine for part of the next Tuesday (13th), and the temperature will also rise to between 24 and 30 degrees.

However, starting from next Thursday (15th), it will be cloudy for 5 consecutive days with a few rain patches; the temperature will also drop to between 22 to 26 degrees.

European and American forecasts predict tropical cyclones in the sea east of the Philippines

In addition, with reference to the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecast (ECMWF) and the United States Global Forecast System (GFS) forecast, next Thursday and Friday (16th) there will be tropical cyclones in the sea east of the Philippines.

ECMWF expects the tropical cyclone path to be westward, and the lowest pressure at the center of the sea level is 947 hPa, which is a strong typhoon.

GFS predicts that the tropical cyclone will move northward to the east of Japan.

However, GFS predicted that the tropical cyclone had stronger wind force. The lowest air pressure at the center of the sea level on April 19 was 910 hPa, which has reached the level of a super typhoon.

Hong Kong Observatory: The longer the forecast period, the greater the forecast error

The Observatory pointed out yesterday that the longer the forecast period, the greater the error in the weather forecast. Therefore, there are still quite a few variables for the tropical cyclone.

The Observatory also stated that Hong Kong was rarely affected by tropical cyclones in April. In the past 30 years (1991-2020), the Observatory only issued tropical cyclone warnings for "Leo" in 1999 and "Raccoon" in 2008.

A tropical cyclone is expected to form east of the Philippines next week. Will the Observatory’s interpretation draw usher in the "April Wind"

Probability of significant rainfall at the Observatory is "medium-low" for the first time, expecting rain on three days to see sunshine again early next week

The Observatory received an earthquake report early in the morning. People in many districts were shocked to wake up. Four places in Hong Kong were once the epicenters.

The weather forecast will increase the probability of significant rainfall today. The Observatory will announce heavy rain in some areas in the next season.

The Observatory expects up to 8 typhoons to hit Hong Kong this year is normal or it may have entered the windy season before June
