According to the informant, the police arrested 6 men and women in Chai Wan and Shau Kei Wan yesterday (9th), suspected of possessing 100 grams of black explosives, methamphetamine, and possession of tools for drug use. Three of them have triad backgrounds.
The police said they were still investigating the use of explosives and asked whether they were related to the anti-amendment legislation or triad incidents. The police responded that they did not rule out any possibility.
As for the actual composition and harmfulness of the explosives, it is still to be investigated, but according to the weight, the explosives can be detonated for short- and medium-distance damage.
Senior Inspector Tang Weiwei, Head of Team 1A of the Hong Kong Island Regional Crime Squad, explained the case that the police received an informative report the day before (8th) that someone had hidden explosives in a unit in Fu Chui House, Huan Cui Village, Chai Wan.
In the early morning of yesterday (9th), officers searched the unit and found a plastic bottle for connecting wires in the house, which was an unfinished explosive device, and seized about 100 grams of black powder, steel wire piles and 16.7 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
After preliminary inspection by personnel from the Explosives Disposal Section, it was confirmed that the black powder was a low-energy explosive.
The police arrested a non-Chinese woman, a man and two women in the unit, including the owner, on suspicion of "possession of explosives" and "possession of dangerous drugs".
The police then locked down a unit in Yiu Fai House, Yiu Tung Estate, Shau Kei Wan, and arrested another man and a woman believed to be involved in the case.
Police found 1.3 grams of methamphetamine and a curling tool for taking drugs on the premises.
The three men and three women arrested were aged between 24 and 46. They were respectively unemployed, renovation workers and housewives. Three of them had triad background.
Six people are currently being detained for investigation, and the case is handed over to Team A of the Regional Crime Squad of Hong Kong Island for investigation.
The police reminded that if citizens see suspected explosives or suspicious devices, they should leave a safe route as soon as possible and call 999 for help.
