"The right of Maj. Gen. Galant to deny me the Likud Prize, but I think the Likud and the State of Israel are two different and not identical things," said Prof. Oded Goldreich of the Weizmann Institute, in response to the Education Minister's decision not to accept the Israel Prize.

According to Goldreich, "there may be people who think differently, but I do not think so. This affair has not been on me for a long time, it is bigger than me and it affects us all. The position of education minister is a small step in an ongoing process of de-legitimization of the left."

Recall that Goldreich was nominated for the award for his work in the study of mathematics and computer science, for his work on computational complexity.

But following the signing of a petition calling on the EU to stop collaborating EU institutions or programs with Ariel University, Education Minister Galant rejected the award of the award's jury, and she herself filed a petition in court.

After reviewing the petition and hearing the parties' arguments, the judges accepted the Attorney General's position that the Minister of Education should be allowed to examine information on the boycott petition.

Prof. Goldreich said he signed the petition in January, before deciding to win the prize.

He further stated that he is behind his signing of the petition, and made it clear that he does not support the BDS movement.

Following the decision, Galant reacted to the decision that Goldreich would not receive the award because "the Israel Award is the most prestigious award given by the State of Israel. Those whose hearts and laws are not dear to the State of Israel - do not deserve the award."
