Corona outbreak in India: A new record in the number of newly verified was recorded over the weekend - 152,879.

This is the sixth time this week that the verified record has been broken, along with a dramatic increase in the daily death toll from the plague - 839 died from corona just yesterday (Saturday).

In large parts of the country, hospitals and crematoria are struggling to cope with the influx of patients and the dead.

India is at the top of the unflattering table of the daily number of verified people in the world, and in fact one in six new verified people in the world - is Indian.

India currently has over 13.35 million verified carriers, a number slightly lower than in Brazil and the United States alone.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (Sunday) launched a four-day "vaccination festival" to try and boost the country's vaccination rate.

"During this period we must move forward to make the best use of our immune capacity," Moody said.

The country has so far provided about one hundred million vaccine doses (since mid-January) but keep in mind that India’s population is 1.35 billion people.

The governor of the state of Maharashtra, where the financial capital Mumbai is located and also has the highest number of new nationals in the subcontinent, said he may impose additional measures beyond the weekend closure.

"In order to break the transmission chain strict restrictions must be imposed for a certain period of time," Governor Adhad Thackrey said on Saturday.

Health authorities in India claim that the new and alarming wave of corona is mainly due to overcrowded conditions and unwillingness to wear masks.

Elections, parties and large religious gatherings have also continued in recent weeks.

For example, this morning thousands of people crowded on the banks of the Holy Ganges River in the city of Haridwar for morning prayers during the "Komba Mela" - a Hindu holiday.

During the holiday, about five million people are expected to reach the banks of the Ganges in the city on certain days.

Although the authorities conditioned the celebrants' entry into the area with a negative corona check and observance of the rules of social distance, even this morning thousands of believers gathered along the river without masks, and in high density.
