In view of increasing vaccine delivery numbers, the North Rhine-Westphalian Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) has spoken out in favor of an end to the corona vaccination sequence by the summer.

"When the large amounts of vaccine come at the end of spring, the vaccination priorities should fall and vaccinations should be opened to everyone," Laschet told the "Bild am Sonntag".

The Prime Minister and CDU chief called the vaccinations an "important building block for the bridge to a summer with much more freedom."

However, he welcomed the previous strict adherence to the order.

With the strict prioritization at the beginning, a protective wall was built for the elderly and those in need of care.

"We have saved countless lives in this way."

Laschet criticized the advance of the federal states of Bavaria and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to procure the Russian corona vaccine Sputnik V.

"I think it's right if the Federal Republic of Germany orders vaccines for everyone according to clear criteria and not everyone just for themselves," he said.

Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) said last week that his country had secured 2.5 million doses of Sputnik V with a preliminary contract in the event that the active ingredient was approved by the EU.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania also announced on Thursday that it had secured an option from Russia for one million of these vaccine doses.
