Covid-19: in the Oise, slowly, but surely, we vaccinated without an appointment

The acceleration of the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 took a very concrete turn this weekend in Beauvais (Oise).

Not only was the vaccine already accessible to people over 55 without restriction, as will be the case everywhere in France from this Monday, but it is also without an appointment that the first injection was possible.

On the condition, however, of accepting the AstraZeneca vaccine, the only one available in the André-Ambroise gymnasium converted into a vaccination center.

Because this vaccine in particular still seems to put off part of the population.

This Sunday morning, a couple turned back after having taken some information.

“We will come back later, by making an appointment, to do the vaccine with another brand.

"

"People are starting to change their minds about the AstraZeneca"

Saturday was relatively calm in the center of Beauvais.

“We still gave 120 out-of-date injections,” observes Yoann Glumineau, departmental manager of the Order of Malta, whose volunteers help the Oise firefighters at this center.

And this Sunday, we should make a nice climb, in an hour and a half, we are already at 80 injections.

People are starting to change their minds about the AstraZeneca.

"

"We benefit from very good word of mouth from the first people vaccinated," notes Isabelle Soula, deputy mayor of Beauvais in charge of health issues.

It is also up to us to make known this possibility of vaccination.

A Beauvais resident called me to find out more, as a result, she and two members of her family are eligible, and all will be coming this afternoon.

"

"That's a good thing done !"

Most of the center boxes are in any case occupied on this Sunday morning, by visibly relieved patients.

“It was my daughter, who is a nurse, who called us early this morning to tell us that we could come,” explains Serge Leboucher, 61, from La Houssoye.

So, with my wife, we jumped in the car.

That's a good thing done !

"

And among the vaccine candidates, some have come a long way.

“We had people from Amiens this morning because for the moment, we are the only center to do without an appointment and for people over 55 years old without other conditions, underlines Yoann Glumineau.

On the other hand, we had to refuse someone from Méru who wanted to be vaccinated at all costs… He was only 48 years old.

William, 59, arrived early this Sunday morning from Compiègne.

“I discovered this walk-in vaccination on the Internet, by chance.

I preferred to come right away before it was open to more people in the days and weeks to come.

A few boxes further, Philippe, a Beauvaisien who will be 69 years old in three days, is delighted to be there.

“It's a great organization and the people are very nice.

I had the first injection, the second will be in two months.

On the other hand, I find that the information has circulated little and my pharmacist to whom I asked the question yesterday told me that I could not come!

Fortunately, I saw an ad on the city's social media last night.

I said to myself, I might as well go right now.

"

To be vaccinated, it takes an hour in total.

The vaccination circuit is well established, and from entry to exit, it takes an hour, between visits to the doctor and the observation time, which varies depending on the person, just after the injection.

“We're starting to get used to it, we've been working on vaccinations for two weeks,” says a volunteer from the Order of Malta.

More than ever, the race for vaccination is a major element in the fight against the virus, particularly in the department of Oise where the epidemic situation remains worrying.

Particularly strong hospital pressure

According to data provided by the prefecture at the end of the week, “the departmental incidence rate reached 605 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, with peaks of 900 in the Creil Sud Oise agglomeration and 888 in the Beauvaisis agglomeration.

The regional occupancy rate for intensive care beds is 94%.

"

According to the authorities, this particularly strong hospital pressure involves “the deprogramming of medical operations and several medical evacuations of patients.
