In Grafing, pedestrians have to cross Aiblinger Strasse at the most dangerous place - even the authorities say that.

But nothing goes forward in solving the problem - one affected person describes her experience.

Grafing

- First she lost her health, then her job and finally the trust in authorities and politics: Barbara Gramelsberger has been through a lot since a bad accident on Aiblinger Straße, corner of Klausenweg on October 18, 2018 in Grafing.

Hospitalization, rehabilitation, "I am no longer so resilient," says the 59-year-old.

The Grafingerin was hit by a car while pushing her bike across the street.

What particularly annoys the woman: This situation could repeat itself at any time.

Because nothing has changed so far, on the contrary, it has gotten worse.

Barbara Gramelsberger is at the point where it happened.

The curve is confusing, and yet many children from the new settlement on Aiblinger Anger cross the street on their way to school.

“No car driver adheres to the speed limit.” Through the curve towards the exit of the town, visibility is around 25 meters.

“Now they have also eaten and planted the noise protection wall.

It gets worse every week, ”says the Gramelsberger about the limited visibility.

“Something has to happen.” In the late afternoon, the low sun also blinds drivers.

Three months in a wheelchair because a driver overlooks it

What can happen is proven by Gramelsberger's own fate: She wants to cross Aiblinger Straße in the afternoon in rush hour traffic and comes from the direction of the industrial area, like many others who go shopping there on foot.

A driver coming from Klausenweg overlooks the 59-year-old.

There is an accident with dire consequences.

"Multiple pelvic fractures, open ankle fractures, a hole in the head and cerebral hemorrhage, a sacrum fracture," the accident victim lists.

This is followed by three weeks of hospitalization, two operations, rehabilitation and loss of job.

"I was in a wheelchair for three months."

Public order office criticizes the dangerousness of the position

Since such an accident could easily be repeated, Gramelsberger writes to the city of Grafing.

On November 19, 2019, she received an e-mail from the public order office that a site inspection had taken place with representatives of the Ebersberg police station and the district office.

It is stated: “At the moment it is the case that pedestrians have to cross the lane exactly in the curve of Aiblinger Straße.

The opposite entrance to Klausenweg not only lacks the opposite recreational area for pedestrians, the path to be crossed is the longest in this area. ”It is suggested that the crossing in the direction of Aldi at the bus stop should be postponed.

Criticism also from the police

Stephan Mittermaier, police chief inspector and traffic clerk at the Ebersberg police station, points out that it is a state road and that the Ebersberg road construction office and district office would be on board when a decision was made.

"We are never against a school helper crossing," he says of a possible solution.

However, it must also be "served" in terms of personnel.

Putting up a mirror there for drivers is not an option, but rather "deceptive security".

The suggestion with the traffic mirror for pedestrians, "so that they can recognize vehicle traffic earlier", came from Mayor Christian Bauer (CSU).

Mittermaier also criticizes the fact that the noise protection wall was given a passage precisely at this point.

He also says: “Basically we need a floor space” for pedestrians.

From Leonhard Kogler, Gramelsberger received the information by email: "A speed limit of 30 is not possible on local roads like Aiblinger Straße." Bauer promised Gramelsberger at least to measure the speed more.

That was at the beginning of May last year.

On March 17, 2021, the 59-year-old received another email from Mayor Bauer.

Content: With regard to speed controls, "it is difficult to find a suitable place in Aiblinger Straße to set up a speed camera."

Even an occasional speed camera won't work

Gramelsberger is slowly losing patience: "When they flash where, it is mostly at the entrance to the town on Glonner Straße, just after the town sign, where you can see as far as Glonn," she complains.

That is unacceptable.

"In the meantime, my daughter, who wanted to visit me with my grandson by cargo bike, was almost hit by a car there," she says about the danger of the place on Aiblinger Strasse.

She is very disappointed "that the safety of pedestrians and cyclists in Grafing is of such minor importance compared to car traffic."

According to information from Bauer to the 59-year-old, a planning office had recommended a “pedestrian traffic light north of the Klausenweg confluence.” The costs for this would be 130,000 euros.

"We wrote to the district office and asked for implementation." As soon as there is a result, the 59-year-old will be informed.

In the Ebersberg district office, however, the Ebersberger Zeitung is confirmed that there are no specific plans yet.

“For this reason, I will now collect signatures in the neighborhood to make it clear that I am not the only one who despair of the traffic situation at the intersection,” announced Gramelsberger.
