they were called this Sunday to decide their future president.
Peruvians have come to vote amid fear of covid-19 and without a clear favorite on the ballots and with six candidates with options to go to the second round, scheduled for June.
In the neighboring country, where the polls closed at five in the afternoon, Lenín Moreno's successor is chosen in a dispute between two opposing models of the country.
Andrés Arauz, a candidate promoted by former president Rafael Correa, won the first round in February, but without enough margin to avoid a tiebreaker and had to face the conservative Guillermo Lasso.
The two hopefuls were heading, according to the latest polls, towards a technical tie.
Only two pollsters have conducted exit polls.
The study carried out by Clima Social confirms this trend.
The Cedatos company, however, gives Lasso a six-point lead.
