Félix Salgado demands the restitution of his candidacy for governor

The politician of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) Félix Salgado Macedonio leads a caravan of dozens of vehicles and hundreds of supporters that departed this Saturday from Acapulco to Mexico City to demand the National Electoral Institute (INE) that he reinstate his candidacy for the governor of Guerrero, which was canceled along with that of other candidates at the end of March for failing to submit a pre-campaign spending report.

The delegation expects to arrive in the Mexican capital this Sunday, where they will demonstrate peacefully, according to a statement from Salgado Macedonio's campaign team.

The mobilization takes place after this Friday the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judicial Power (TEPJF) partially revoked the INE's resolution against the politician and ordered the individualization of the sanctions, according to a statement from the Tribunal.

The TEPJF ruling maintains that, although Morena failed by omitting the presentation of the candidates' pre-campaign reports, the cancellation of the candidacy “is constitutionally disproportionate, since its automatic application restricts the right to be voted.

Therefore, given the breach of its obligation to present its income and expense reports, the specific circumstances of each case had to be taken into consideration ”.

After the cancellation of his candidacy, Salgado Macedonio assured on social networks: «We tell the INE that he was wrong.

The maximum penalty of withdrawing our candidacy for the state government is rude and arbitrary, a sign that we are stronger than ever.

On March 4, the Guerrero Electoral and Citizen Participation Institute had endorsed Salgado Macedonio's candidacy for governor of the state.

The politician registered his candidacy for Morena on February 15, but his candidacy was criticized by feminist movements in Mexico after Salgado Macedonio was accused of sexual abuse by at least two women.
