Hong Kong University and CUHK can do CAR-T therapy

Sapai Port will receive CAR-T therapy for Liu Zihao to defeat blood cancer
Sa Pai Port's victory over blood cancer by Liu Zihao was the first time that he received CAR-T therapy at the University of Hong Kong and Queen Mary Hospital in October last year. It was also the first time in Hong Kong to use this therapy to treat blood cancer patients outside of a clinical trial.
The drug Liu Zihao accepted is "Tisagenlecleucel", which is the first and only CAR-T cell therapy approved in Hong Kong. It was registered with the Department of Health in March 2020 under the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance.

NK and CIK therapy are still in the research stage

Ou Yongren said that the current international NK and CIK cell therapies are still in the research stage, and there is no therapeutic course that can be sold in the market: "As far as I know, even in the Mainland, there are currently no cell products that can be sold. Therefore, it should only be of a research nature.” He said that some Hong Kong people would go to the Mainland, Germany, or Japan, and other countries where cell therapy is more popular, for treatment.
Qian Guowei and Zheng Weitao went to Japan for treatment
Qian Guowei, the former gold medal producer of TVB variety show, died of illness in October last year. He went to Japan to receive NK immune cell therapy during his lifetime.
And Zheng Weitao, one of the founders of "Itazen Sushi", also revealed in court that he had gone to Japan to undergo cell therapy to treat pancreatic cancer.
Looking at the information, there are companies in Hong Kong that provide patients with services for NK cell therapy in Japan.

Risk of infection and rejection
Cell therapy is dangerous, and Ou Yongren emphasized: "This is always a blood transfusion procedure, and there are certain risks, such as bacteria in the blood used, and rejection of the patient." He cited, for example, that if the cells cause a patient's rejection, it can lead to Bone marrow failure; if T cell therapy is not used for matching, the injected cells may attack the patient's body and cause organ failure.
Currently foreign countries are studying CAR-NK therapy, which is called "the next generation of cell therapy."
