Jennifer Dahlgren, a benchmark for Argentine athletics, announced on Sunday her retirement from the activity after winning her twelfth hammer throwing title in the National Senior Championship that was held in the Entre Ríos city of Concepción del Uruguay.

Dahlgren, 36, put an end to a 23-year career with a mark of 63.07 meters, ostensibly lower than the 73.74 with which he set the current South American record in the specialty, on April 10, 2010 in Buenos Aires.

"It was my last tournament, I had been processing it for a while but I am obviously moved because I closed a huge stage in my life," she told DeporTV with emotion.

Dahlgren, who in May last year had advanced his idea of retiring after the Tokyo Olympics, finally precipitated his decision by feeling

"a major disconnect"

in the last tournaments he competed.
