On the Geretsrieder Böhmwiese, strangers apparently destroyed an apiary in order to celebrate.

Now the bees are in danger.

Update from April 11th:

In the case of the destroyed apiary on the Böhmwiese, the Geretsried police asked for relevant information.

According to the press report, the officials assume there are several perpetrators.

The remains found, including packaging for beverages, would suggest it.

"The packaging was seized and is being examined in the hope of gaining clues about the perpetrators," said the police.

As reported, a civilian patrol from the operational supplementary services Murnau discovered during a routine inspection on the Böhmwiese on Friday afternoon that an apiary had been broken into.

The vandals gained access to the wooden house through a window ajar and threw almost all the objects inside, explained the police in their press report on Saturday.

The officials speak of a "cowardly attack".

The tenants Sandra and Michael Sidarous had four bee colonies in the apiary.

Some of the insects had already died on Friday afternoon as a result of the vandalism.

The hobby beekeepers hoped to find at least one more queen to save the remaining bees.

But the search was in vain.

"Unfortunately we haven't found a queen," reports Sandra Sidarous.

In addition, the couple found that hives, i.e. the bees' housing, were missing.

The police assume that honey production items were stolen.

The 44-year-old owner estimates the stealing or property damage at around 10,000 euros.

Anyone who has observed something conspicuous in the area of the apiary should contact the Geretsried police, phone 08171/93510.

First report from April 9th: Beekeeper shocked by "blind destructiveness"

Geretsried - beehives, a shelf and frames with honeycombs lie in a heap in the forest, bees wander around, behind them the apiary with the levered out window and all sorts of empty beverage cans in it.

Sandra and Michael Sidarous were stunned on Friday when they saw what was left of their apiary.

It is idyllically located between trees on the Böhmwiese.

They have been leasing it from the Bavarian State Forests since 2018.

"Now everything is broken," says Sandra Sidarous, shocked.

Before winter, the beekeeper Michael Sidarous was last with his four colonies, after all they are still in the winter cluster.

“The less the beekeeper does now, the better,” says the 44-year-old.

He usually visits them only when the night frost has stopped and the cherry blossom has started.

“But the forest kindergarten always looked and told us when the bees were flying,” reports Sandra Sidarous.

But on Friday the couple got a call from a mobile police force.

A civil patrol became aware of the destroyed apiary, report Sandra and Michael Sidarous.

The two of them hurried and informed the

after the police had secured all traces.

You want to draw attention to the incomprehensible act.

"It looks like someone had a party here and the bees were disturbing," says the 40-year-old, who fears that the perpetrator or perpetrators will return.

Last year young people had already thrown a firecracker into the apiary.

Sidarous cannot understand the “blind rage of destruction”.

“Bees are the basis of life for all of us.” And they are protected by nature.

“That should be punished.

That is not how it works."

Geretsried: Beekeepers hope to find a queen among the bees - otherwise everything is lost

It looks like someone broke open the window at the back of the apiary to enter via a ladder they had brought with them.

A plexiglass panel was presumably removed from the front and all inventory was thrown out.

Some honeycombs were waiting for their next use, scattered in the forest.

"As if they had really thrown them away."

The owners estimate the damage at 10,000 euros.

But it's not just about the money.

The fact that the bees are now homeless could have dire consequences.

"Because of the foulbrood, peoples shouldn't mix," explains Erich Holzer.

He is chairman of the Wolfratshausen district beekeeping association and at the same time Sidarous' beekeeping sponsor.

With him, the 44-year-old tried to prevent worse on Friday afternoon.

"Hopefully we will find another queen, better two," said Holzer.

Otherwise it could happen that individual bees look for a new colony with another beekeeper and thereby spread diseases.

To prevent this, the veterinarian would have to sulphurise the homeless bees - without a queen, this would be the last resort.

“That would be very sad,” says Sandra Sidarous.

Her husband hopes it doesn't come to that.

He wants to save his bees.

"It's an absolutely gigantic hobby."
