Police allege that members of the Special Duty Squad of Yuen Long Police District raided a unit yesterday (11th) on An Ning Road, Yuen Long, and smashed a suspected illegal gambling stall.
Officers arrested a 33-year-old local man on suspicion of "operating a gambling establishment"; 14 men and 14 women, aged between 31 and 73, were arrested on suspicion of "gambling in a gambling establishment".
All the arrested persons are also suspected of violating the "Prevention and Control of Diseases (Prohibition of Group Gathering) Ordinance" (Chapter 599G), and officers have issued fixed penalty tickets or complaints to them.
The New Territories North Regional Anti-Triad Action Team, together with Yuen Long, Tai Po, Tuen Mun and the border police districts, carried out an anti-crime operation codenamed "LEVINGTON" (LEVINGTON) in New Territories North yesterday.
During the operation, personnel inspected multiple entertainment venues and eating places.
Officers from the Yuen Long Police District and the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department took another joint action and raided a total of 5 catering establishments in the vicinity of Sai Ching Street, Fung Cheung Road, Jian Yip Street and Yau Sun Street, and no violations were found. In addition, officers from the Yuen Long Division also raided 5 catering establishments. Intensified inspections, publicity and education in the district, and a total of 7 people were found not wearing masks in Pao Zhan Fang and Gu Ting Street, Yuen Long, suspected of violating the Prevention and Control of Disease (Wearing Masks) Regulations (Chapter 599I) , The officer then issued a fixed penalty notice to them.
The police stated that they will continue to take intelligence-led operations to make surprise inspections of restaurants in various districts.
