It is the time to make a decision: by Pentecost, the two Prime Ministers, Armin Laschet, CDU chief from North Rhine-Westphalia, and Markus Söder, CSU chief from Bavaria, want to clarify who is applying for the Union's candidate for chancellor in September.
On Sunday afternoon, at least one preliminary decision: Söder is ready for Berlin, Laschet too.
Florian Herrmann, as head of the State Chancellery very close to Söder, has so far been silent about his preferences on the K question: “We understand the interest, but at the moment, Minister of State Dr.
Herrmann did not comment on the K issue.
We ask for your understanding, ”said the State Chancellery on Friday when Herrmann asked for a statement.
On Sunday, Herrmann could not be reached for a statement by the editorial deadline.

MdB Erich Irlstorfer reacted differently: For him the matter was already pretty clear before Sunday afternoon.
Elections would not win party bodies, but the voters decide.
And if you look at the numbers and values of both aspirants and look at the surveys, it shows "that the CSU candidate has a certain format".
Especially in times of Corona and in a phase in which the polls are "not intoxicating" for the Union, someone is needed who can solve problems.
Conclusion: "I can very well imagine that the candidate for chancellor comes from the Bavarian area," says Irlstorfer quite clearly in favor of Söder.
That he would actually be ready if the CDU supported him, that "endorsed" Irlstorfer.
It is also good that you are approaching the decision on the K question, as close as possible to the point in time would be good.
And: "Now it's the CDU's turn."
According to Irlstorfer, the fact that he knows how things are going in many areas through his previous offices and in his diverse functions as well as ministries also speak for the Prime Minister of the Free State.
Due to his political career, Söder covers a wide variety of topics.
Demonstrative disinterest in the green
Irlstorfer can also only say good things about Ralph Brinkhaus, the third Union man who was mentioned again and again in relation to the K question.
A parliamentary group leader of the CDU / CSU in the Bundestag is suitable as a generalist for every office in Germany.
Now it is important to choose the right candidate, then conduct a proper election campaign and achieve the best possible result.
Afterwards one could deal with other parties and programs as well as with the formation of a government.
In other words: Annalena Baerbock or Robert Habeck?
"I really don't care who the Greens put up," said Irlstorfer on the question of whether Laschet or Söder would be more suitable for a black-green government.
