Two volunteer policemen and a resident of Haifa were arrested last week on suspicion of involvement in corruption at the city police station.

According to the suspicion, the two police officers offered drivers whose duty they had registered traffic reports for drunk driving to contact Makram, a 49-year-old resident of the city, to help them cancel the reports, in exchange for benefits.

The two are suspected of bribery and breach of trust.

The Department of Police Investigations (DIP) confirmed this, saying that at the end of the investigation the police were released under restrictive conditions and the citizen was released under house arrest. The citizen's son also served at the station as a police officer in compulsory service, but no suspect was found in the affair.

Police said that upon learning of the case the volunteers were immediately removed from any volunteer activity at the police station.

"We take seriously the suspicions against the volunteers who are currently being investigated in the DIP and are in complete contradiction to the organization's values and the norms of behavior expected of any volunteer in the police," the police said. .
