If you are hungry and want to order food, from almost anywhere you are now you can just go into one of the dedicated apps and choose your favorite dish.

This simple procedure can now also be performed by IDF fighters who serve in outposts on the Gaza Strip border and even those who are in a Pillbox-type guard post, all straight from the military kitchen near them.

The new "Surprise Dose" project allows fighters stationed in the various divisions of the Southern Command to enter a new military application and order from it the selection of foods offered in it.

Whether they crave shawarma, schnitzel, falafel or even a vegan dish, they can order the food easily and a food truck (food truck) will reach them with the baguette or tortilla and in a branded bag.

"We recently did a brainstorming session and thought about how to make the subject of food serving to warriors on the edge so that it is tastier and more inviting," says the person who conceived and initiated the idea, Ranj Dudu Turgeman

"We developed the app, rented refrigerated trucks, food trucks, and created a rich and varied menu that includes several types of meats and even vegetarian and vegan dishes. The fighter, no matter where he is stationed, orders from the app and the next day the food is already in his hand. "The cost. It's crazy. The fighters' smile when they get the bag with the food is worth it."

"This is another generation that loves fast food, so we in military kitchens also need to adapt and know how to pamper them sometimes, whether it's by ordering chefs to inaugurate the kitchens or market tables and now with a 'surprise dish' initiative."

For Turgeman (45) married +4 ("one of them an officer") from Holon, the issue of food for the fighters has been with him for many years.

"I myself enlisted in 1994 and was a fighter and later moved into the food industry and ran small and large kitchens in battalions, in a divisional framework until I got to my current position. Once decades ago, there was a concept called 'food is worth morale'. "For the commanders, at the end if the food is high quality and delicious and also served in a beautiful and respectful way, the soldier is satisfied and satisfied, his motivation increases greatly and he fights better. Thanks to the food, we earn better fighters."

Turgeman's name came before him during the operations in the Gaza Strip, Cast Lead and Eitan Cliff, where he insisted on crossing the border and cooking for the fighters.

"We entered the Strip with cruelty and equipment and cooked for all the soldiers. We would go from house to house at night where the warriors were stationed and surprise them with schnitzel in a baguette, hot shakshuka or meatballs. It is something I will never forget in life. More exciting and satisfying than that. "

His extensive activity did not go unnoticed by the senior command and this week he even received a medal of excellence from Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi. "It is exciting that it is not possible to excel on the basis of a single initiative, but on activity over the years.

I have a food scroll that I have written and placed in every dining room, base or outpost in Southern Command, where there are emphases on the importance of investing in food for the other and especially for the fighters without expecting a return.

I strongly believe in the phrase that appears in every kitchen in command - 'It is a right to feed warriors' "
