For many, Capri-Sun is inextricably linked with childhood memories.

The fruit juice drink, which will still be Capri-Sonne until 2017, will soon be available in a completely new version - from the freezer shelf.

Eppelheim / Munich - It all started with lemon and orange: in 1969 the Capri Sun came on the market in the iconic stand-up pouch.

The fruit juice drink from Eppelheim in Baden has since made a triumphant advance around the globe, and Capri-Sun now fills supermarket shelves in 18 countries.

But not only the appearance of the juice bag changed over the decades, in 2017 the company polarized with the renaming from “Capri-Sun” to “Capri-Sun”.

To the annoyance of many customers.

As the

food newspaper

reports, Capri Sun fans can expect something new.

However, the innovation is likely to meet with more approval than the brand renaming.

Capri sun soon in the freezer?

Company issues ice cream license for the first time

"Capri-Sun and ice cream go together perfectly," emphasized Marketing Director Judith Förster to the

food newspaper

.

The company recently issued an ice cream license - for the first time in the company's history.

The water ice is to be produced and sold by the DMK company in Bremen.

As the newspaper further reports, Capri Sun company owner Hans-Peter Wild is also said to have expanded his stake in the British ice cream manufacturer Oppo Brothers.

It seems that Capri-Sun is serious about the ice cream segment.

The company from Eppelheim near Heidelberg can base its expansion measures on a solid financial foundation: last year sales in Germany rose by 18 percent to almost 100 million euros.

Capri Sun boss René Püchner expects good sales figures for the current year as well.

"We grew again very strongly in the first quarter," he explains to the

food newspaper

.

Even if the fruit juice drink continues to enjoy great popularity, the cult drink still gives cause for criticism - and not just because of its high sugar content.

Capri-Sun: Packaging should become more sustainable

The packaging concept of the Capri-Sun is not very sustainable: a plastic straw in a plastic packaging with the function of piercing an aluminum-coated packaging.

In response to increasing environmental regulations, the company will change its packaging from 2021.

A paper straw is intended to replace the disposable plastic straw and thus make the Capri-Sun more environmentally friendly.

So far, the Baden-based company has only exchanged plastic with paper straws in Portugal, the remaining markets are to follow.

As the

food

newspaper writes, the company passes the increased prices for the procurement of sustainable materials on to its customers.

The price for a 10-bottle Capri-Sun is currently 3.29 euros.

How much the Capri Sun ice cream should cost is still unknown.
