The coronavirus continues to spread.

The 7-day incidence in Germany is increasing, although the RKI does not expect reliable numbers until the middle of the week after the Easter holidays.

  • The corona virus * continues to spread in Germany.

  • The nationwide incidence has been increasing for days.

  • The RKI is now reporting renewed outbreaks in old people's and nursing homes.

Berlin - The corona numbers are likely to receive a lot of attention at the moment, many experts had forecast exponential growth after the Easter holidays.

Although the Robert Koch Institute reported an affordable increase in numbers on Monday (April 12), it was already clear last week that the numbers in Germany are picking up a lot.

Corona in Germany: More than three million people nationwide have tested positive so far

3,011,513 people in Germany have so far officially tested positive for the corona virus * during the corona pandemic *, but the actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.

The first confirmed infection was announced on January 27, 2020.

As the RKI further explained in the management report from Monday (April 12), the institute recorded an increase of 13,245 new corona infections within one day.

In addition, 99 new deaths were recorded within 24 hours.

On Monday, the number of cases reported by the RKI is usually lower, partly because fewer tests are carried out on the weekend.

In addition, because of the school holidays, the figures may not yet be comparable with previous values.

The effect of the Easter days could still linger, the number of tests had decreased significantly over the holidays.

Among other things because many doctor's offices went on a vacation week.

RKI President Lothar Wieler expects more reliable data on the pandemic from the middle of this week.

A week ago, the RKI had recorded 8497 new infections and 50 new deaths within one day.

Corona in Germany: Nationwide incidence continues to rise

According to the RKI, the number of new infections reported within seven days per 100,000 inhabitants was 136.4 nationwide on Monday morning.

The day before, the RKI gave the 7-day incidence as 129.2, a week ago it was 128. But here, too, the RKI draws attention to the fact that the value could still be too low due to fewer tests and reports about the Easter days .

But although the RKI does not expect more reliable figures on the pandemic until the middle of the week, some cities and districts are already showing alarmingly high values.

The cities with the highest incidences are currently listed by Hof, as reported by the RKI.

With an incidence of 587, the city is ahead of the district of Greiz in Thuringia, incidence of 472.3, and the district of Hof with an incidence of 451.5.

But the Vogtlandkreis in Saxony (335.8) and the Burgenlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt (343.3) are currently also heavily affected by the spread of the corona virus.

Corona in Germany: RKI reports outbreaks in old people's and nursing homes

As the RKI also explains in its current management report of April 12, there are currently increasing reports of corona outbreaks in old people's and nursing homes as well as in hospitals.

"In some of these outbreaks, the number of people who died is comparatively high," the RKI continues.
