Corruption: investigation into health care in Sicily, two arrests

During the operation "Everything in order", the financiers of the Provincial Command and the Carabinieri of the Nas carried out a house arrest order issued by the investigating judge of Palermo against Maurizio D'Angelo, 63, of Palermo, former secretary of the central services department of hospital-university hospital Polyclinic "Paolo Giaccone" of Palermo and Alessandro Caccioppo, 49, of Messina, former legal representative of the Italy Emergenza Cooperativa Sociale, under investigation for acts contrary to official duties.

Three other people are being investigated for the same crime with the two arrests.

With the same provision, the investigating judge ordered the preventive seizure of 260 thousand euros, deemed to be the profit of corruption.

    The investigation launched by the Carabinieri of the Nas of Palermo, a warning from the hospital, highlighted serious anomalies in the management of the sick transport service, contracted to Italy Emergenza in 2012 and held until 2018, with an estimated cost of 4.5 million. EUR.

D'Angelo, a public official, would have certified the conformity of the invoices issued by the company despite the fact that according to the investigations they lacked the documents and information required by the special tender specifications, with particular regard to the specific indication of the services rendered and despite the fact that costs were charged to the public body of personnel already included in the paid services.

The company would have spent a higher cost of approximately 3 million 367 thousand euros.
