Bolivia

Bolivia extended the closure of its border with Brazil for one more week to prevent more COVID-19 infections, Bolivian authorities said on Friday.

"After reviewing the different evaluations on the epidemiological evolution on the border, it was decided to close another seven days through a multi-ministerial resolution," said Bolivian Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Integration, Benjamin Blanco, according to the Information Agency of Bolivia (ABI).

Meanwhile, the state of Sao Paulo and the city of Rio de Janeiro announced that they will relax some restrictions due to coronavirus from this Monday.

Joao Gabbardo, head of the Sao Paulo state covid-19 working group, said at a press conference that the current restrictions have produced the expected results in terms of reducing the number of new cases and hospitalizations.

Rio de Janeiro will allow the opening of bars and restaurants until 9 pm, but the beaches remain closed.

Among the flexibility in Sao Paulo are sporting events without spectators and the opening of take-out restaurants.

The curfew is maintained from 8 pm to 5 am.

The level of the restrictions will be reassessed on April 18, authorities said.

Argentina

Argentina wants to buy vaccines from Cuba 4:17

Argentina is negotiating the purchase of candidate vaccines against covid-19 developed by Cuba, Soberana-02 and Abdala, which are in phase 3 of trials.

If approved, they would be the first Latin American vaccines against the coronavirus.
