The Daraa Department of Antiquities completed the second phase of the restoration of the Alexander Palace of Al-Qarnayn in the town of Al-Mutaiya and the Zein Al-Abidin Palace in Ankhil, with a total value of 46 million Syrian pounds.
The head of the Daraa Antiquities Department, Dr. Muhammad Khair Nasrallah, said in a statement to SANA's correspondent today that the goal of the implemented works is to preserve the two sites from construction risk, especially since they were subjected to tampering during the years of the crisis, indicating that the department has completed works related to installing façades, filling gaps in the walls, sorting stones, leveling the floor. Which was exposed to excavation of buried treasures and archaeological finds during the past years.
He pointed out that the restoration work of Al-Muzayrib Castle has reached its final stages, indicating that the executed works included dismantling and re-installing stone facades, presenting and installing carved stone, excavation works, deportation, presentation and implementation of a traditional company and documentation works for the facades.
Last year, according to Nasrallah, the department carried out emergency reinforcement works for Al-Muzayrib Castle, with a value of 56 million pounds, which included providing and installing carved stone to build walls, dismantling and installing cracked stones in the facades, with documenting the stone facade and supporting fillings to install the stone wall.
The Alexander Palace is located in the center of the town of Al-Mutaiya and at the highest point of the old town. It is a building consisting of a basement and a first floor, while the palace of Zain Al-Abidin is considered one of the important examples of rural buildings that have remained preserved in their original form, noting that the building is surrounded by old buildings that have features that differ from the palace In terms of size, decorations, height, etc., Al Muzayrib Castle includes a group of sections such as the northern block and the seven towers, which are still well preserved in their structural condition, and it is believed that the castle was a center for the gathering of pilgrims heading to the Hijaz.
