He was arrested there at the end of March, as the police are now reporting.
Counterfeit banknotes: Only noticed when paying in at the machine
At the beginning of November, a man from the Freising district sold two so-called Krugerrand gold coins via an online portal for a total of 3600 euros.
The buyer paid the price at the personal handover with, among other things, seven 500 euro bills.
"The seller from the Freising district only noticed that this was deceptively real counterfeit money when he deposited the money at the ATM," said the Upper Bavaria North Police Headquarters.
After several weeks of intensive investigations, a lead finally led the Erding police to Swabia: In Krumbach, several clues pointed to a suspect 35-year-old who was supposed to live there in a single-family house without official registration.
After a judicial decision, the Erding police, with the support of PI Krumbach, searched the house in February.
The suspect was not found, but the emergency services were able to secure evidence relevant to the crime.
This included the e-bike used by the perpetrator when buying gold.
The search also found around 20 grams of marijuana.
Fugitive arrested at Palma airport
In the course of the following investigations, the suspicion was finally confirmed that the fugitive perpetrator was on the island of Mallorca.
In cooperation with the Spanish authorities, the fugitive was arrested at Palma de Mallorca airport at the end of March on the basis of a European arrest warrant.
The 35-year-old was extradited to Germany last week and transferred to a correctional facility.
