The Turkish Human Rights Foundation Academy confirmed that thousands of students in Turkey have been subjected to violations by the authorities of Recep Tayyip Erdogan's regime for expressing their views.

The Turkish newspaper Zaman today stated that a report prepared by the academy on violations against students revealed that 3102 students had been subjected to violations during the past years due to expressing their opinions, while 2,077 students were arrested for organizing demonstrations against Erdogan's tyranny, while 203 students were convicted on various charges.

At the same time, 152 students were sentenced to imprisonment for a total of 506 years and one month, and 720 students were injured as a result of police violence and 23 students were killed during gatherings and demonstrations they participated in.

She indicated that the first ten cities that recorded the highest number of violations were Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya, Eskisehir, Adana, Diyarbakir, Mersin, Van and Kocaeli, respectively.

The report stated that 49 percent of rights violations in universities are violations of the right to assembly and demonstrate, 37 percent of which were against freedom of association and 14 percent against freedom of expression.

It is noteworthy that the protests that Bogazzi University witnessed at the beginning of this year against the appointment of Melih Polo as president of the university, which are still continuing, are among the most prominent student protests in Turkey, during which many students were subjected to violence at the hands of the Turkish regime's security forces, and a number of others were arrested and charged.
