The ultra-Orthodox and religious sectors are pressuring the Ministry of Health to allow Meron to open wide in favor of the Rashbi celebration. The Ministry of Health, for its part, has refrained from making a decision on the matter at the moment, in part .

The celebration in Meron is the largest religious event of the year, attracting hundreds of thousands of people.

This year, in light of the drop in morbidity and the opening of various complexes and events that have been closed for months, there has also been a demand to hold the celebration as a series.

At first, the Ministry of Health considered allowing only green-labeled people to enter the compound, but since this is an open space, it is not clear if this is possible.

One proposal was that the bus drivers would not allow those who did not have a green sign to get to Meron, but the proposal met with opposition from the bus companies.

In recent days, ultra-Orthodox elements have been putting a lot of pressure on law enforcement and the Ministry of Health not to impose restrictions on the celebration.

At a hearing in his office last week, Interior Minister Aryeh Deri called the restrictions "a decree the public cannot comply with," noting that "there is a large drop in morbidity, so as many people as possible should be allowed to arrive."

The ultra-Orthodox mayors met with the Minister of Internal Security, Amir Ohana, to "ensure the holding of Lag B'Omer events in Meron without restrictions," as they defined it. Among other things, the mayors of Bnei Brak, Modi'in Illit, Beitar Illit and Elad attended the meeting.

"It is impossible for huge events to take place across the country, and when it comes to the ultra-Orthodox public - the demand for restrictions is immediately heard," says the chairman of the ultra-Orthodox authorities forum and the mayor of Beitar Illit, Meir Rubinstein. "We call on the government: Stop this madness!

Do not give in to blatant discrimination against the ultra-Orthodox public.

Announce today that there will be no restriction on those seeking to come and celebrate.

It is not possible to put the ultra-Orthodox public to sleep with empty promises.

We will not remain silent until we receive clear clarifications from the Prime Minister and the Minister of Health. "

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health is in no hurry to make a decision.

Admittedly, it is clear to them that there is a certain fear of infection because it is hundreds of thousands who gather together in a crowded compound, even if it is in the open air.

On the other hand, it is difficult to withstand the heavy pressure in light of the low morbidity.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the professional bodies in the ministry was held in an attempt to reach decisions.

One of the proposals raised was to close or restrict entry to the Rashbi Tomb Zion compound itself, and to allow unrestricted movement outside the closed compound.
