Lessons with air filters: Söder wants to check it out

Now it's a matter for the boss: Markus Söder wants to check whether lessons can take place even with high incidences if appropriate precautions have been taken.

Erding - The district of Erding has invested a good million euros to make all classrooms in its schools largely infection-proof - with air filters, separating discs and CO2 traffic lights.

Many parishes do the same.

Nevertheless, from today onwards: alternating lessons.

The seven-day incidence was over 100 on Friday.

On this very day, the CSU district board of Upper Bavaria conferred with the prime minister.

District Administrator Martin Bayerstorfer took the opportunity to speak to Markus Söder about the discrepancy that there is hardly any risk of infection in “his” schools and that, with the exception of the final and fourth grades, one still has to return to distance teaching, i.e. to homeschooling.

Is something moving now?

Not yet.

"But Markus Söder has promised me that he wants to check whether at least alternating lessons are possible if the appropriate precautions have been taken, as we have," Bayerstorfer told our newspaper on Sunday.

"He has neither refused nor given the green light." The district administrator considers alternating lessons with half classes to be feasible under these circumstances.

Despite half of the classes in the end, the district has also increased the number of school buses with funding from the Free State in order to minimize contacts on the way to school,

However, he does not believe that the investment was in vain.

“I see that in the long term.

With the air filters, we also have an effective tool against illness-related failures in every flu season, ”he is convinced.

“The pandemic has shown that colds, which are transmitted in the same way as the corona virus, have been strongly pushed back, not least because of the mask requirement.

In the future, there will be fewer absenteeism due to illness. "

Against this background, Bayerstorfer calls for a rethink when planning new schools.

“Because of smaller classes, the room sizes have also been reduced.

Today we know that more space also allows more distance between the students. ”That is why all the children at some elementary and secondary schools in rural areas could have been schooled despite alternating lessons.

The district administrator hopes that the incidence in the district will fall below 100 again.

“The third wave is rolling here too, no question about it.

On the other hand, we are still in a very good position to understand most of the contacts quickly and to be able to send the contact persons into quarantine. "That must continue to succeed," otherwise we will be like the district of Mühldorf, who on Sunday had an incidence of just under 260 ”.

Our newspaper received only evasive answers from the Ministry of Culture regarding air filters.

A spokesman for Minister Michael Piazolo only referred to the well-known regulation: alternating instruction up to an incidence of 100, distance instruction above that.

In addition, the spokesman refers to the mandatory testing that will apply from this Monday.

With regard to individual solutions based on technical precautions, the Ministry reports succinctly: "Considerations about more face-to-face teaching as possible are continuously discussed with the Ministry of Health."
