The former site of the Royal Theater in North Point recently held an exhibition "Finding You, Me and His Royal Capital". In addition to a large number of nostalgic objects, the works of young artists have also attracted attention.

Approaching the Huangdu Theater along Dianchang Street, a nostalgic-drawn poster on the outer wall of "The whole house is full" comes into view. Nearly 30 well-known Hong Kong-produced characters are all from the handwriting of the post-90s painter Hengzai. Even his idol, Ruan Dayong, who was awarded the Hong Kong Film Awards Professional Spirit Award, also expressed his appreciation for his work earlier.

The revitalization of the Royal Theater is just around the corner. Now the works of the old and new generations of "poster masters" are put together, recreating the glorious history of the theater back then.

Another modern calligrapher who has been practising calligraphy for more than 20 years also swayed at an old iron gate in the shopping mall of the Royal Theater. He wrote about the 68-year history of the Royal Capital in different scripts. Able to read the story of the imperial capital.

As soon as I walked into the exhibition venue, I saw six nostalgic movie posters. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that these six "same day" films were originally purely creative.

Lin Jiaheng (Heng Zai) of "Paperless Studio" used to turn the Western hero movie "Wonder Woman" into an old poster style "Wanda Wuwen", which was very popular on the Internet.

This time he created five characters based on the history of the Royal Theater. Among them, "Gorgeous Song Queen" represents Teresa Teng who once appeared on stage at the Royal Theater, and "Entertainer" represents the founder of Xuangong Theater (the predecessor of the Royal Theater) Oudley The legendary architect said that the rooftop of the Huangdu Theater has characteristic "flying arch" trusses and so on.

Five original poster roles as director, screenwriter, and makeup artist

"Turn things that have appeared in the past into movies that will be released in this moment." Hengzai said that the movie posters painted in the past were based on existing movie characters. This time, five original characters have been created, just like the director, The screenwriter and make-up artist are all in one. The clothes and actions of the characters must refer to the popular elements of the year. "I would like to know hand-painted movie posters. In fact, I have seen a lot of posters by Teacher Ruan Dayong in middle school. I hope I can continue. I present this style, because all my family are made by computer Photoshop."

Another work of Hengzai is a large-scale poster that pays tribute to Hong Kong movies over the years, featuring nearly 30 classic characters such as "The King of Comedy" Yin Tianchou, "The Family" and "The Family" Cheng Dasao. The painting is placed on the outer wall of the theater. , Next to Ruan Dayong's early paintings "Game of Death" and "Half a Catty Eight Two".

"I was born in 1995, and the Royal Theater was closed in 1997 and turned into a billiard city, so this time I am really happy and lucky." He said that he has always hoped that his work can really be placed outside the cinema. This time Being able to exhibit in such a historical imperial capital is a dream come true. In addition, Ruan Dayong had "checked in" in front of his paintings earlier, and Hengzai described it as "achievement unlocking."

The iron gate summarizing the 68-year history of the imperial capital

In addition, there is also an iron gate with "word cloud" written on it in the exhibition.

Sam, a post-80s modern calligrapher who has been writing calligraphy for more than 20 years, made impromptu creations on an old iron gate in the shopping mall of Huangdu Theater earlier. He used the Northern Wei style, official script and running script to describe the 68-year history of the imperial capital. The most important elements are listed.

These include the "Japan Film Festival" that was first held in Hong Kong, the last movie "A Good Man" that was released in the imperial capital, and so on.

Sam said that newspapers and hashtag models were used in the production, and different book styles were selected according to different contents. He hoped that besides creating a "check-in position", participants could also get close to the stories of the royal capital.

He said frankly that writing on iron gates is not an easy task. Among them, it is necessary to consider how to arrange the fonts between the pits and create an "old" feeling. The use of fonts also refers to the posters of old Hong Kong theaters and bridges.

The whole work was completed in one go, and it took about eight hours to complete. Sam hopes that more people can learn about the history of the Royal Theater, and at the same time promote calligraphy. "The fun calligraphy is actually a lot of fun," he said.

Time-lapse video of the production process of the iron gate (provided by the interviewee):

Before the restoration of the Royal Theater, New World launched a one-month historical experience activity of "Finding the Royal Capital of You, Me, and Him". In addition to viewing the works of two artists, visitors can also visit more than 100 old theater-related objects. .
