(CNN) -
The Biden administration has secured agreements for Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala to tighten their borders and curb the flow of migration, Tyler Moran, special assistant to the president for immigration at the National Policy Council, told MSNBC on Monday.
“We have secured agreements for them to put more troops on their own border.
Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala have agreed to do this.
That will not only prevent traffickers, smugglers and cartels from taking advantage of children on the way here, but it will also protect those children, ”Moran said.

The Biden administration has struggled to keep up with the influx of migrants arriving at the border and there has been a significant increase in the number of migrant children in U.S. custody.
Moran also outlined a two-pronged approach to addressing the situation at the border, including processing unaccompanied minors safely in the U.S. and addressing the reasons people migrate to the country.
“We are addressing the reasons why people come from the region.
This is really important.
If you only focus on our border, you are not addressing why people actually come to our border.
The president has a plan and is working with the vice president on this, ”Moran said, citing investments in the region in part.
