Second-hand beautiful things for little money: In the pandemic, the offer of the small social department store Ringelsocke in Gmund is more in demand than ever.

Second-hand beautiful things for little money: In the pandemic, the offer of the small social department store Ringelsocke in Gmund is more in demand than ever.

Gmund

- four sales rooms, that means four customers.

So many can rummage through the offer of the small social department store Ringelsocke in Gmund at the same time.

In order for this to work, the Tegernseer Tal Diakonieverein has invested in the technology.

Appointments are made over the phone.

Usually the customers are already at the door and are ad hoc ad hoc if there is still space in the shop.

“The way everyone does it,” says Monika Klöcker, administrative manager of the Diakonieverein Tegernseer Tal.

After the lockdown, the rush is now particularly large.

The opening depends on the current incidence.

“We tremble from day to day,” says Klöcker.

What makes the small department store so special is the idea behind it.

If you have to be very economical, you can get clothes of all sizes, shoes, toys, bed linen, small household appliances and much more second-hand at a low price.

“We take everything as long as it's not dirty or broken,” says Klöcker.

There is no shortage of donations.

"We get very nice things for the striped sock, including branded goods," says Klöcker happily about the willingness of citizens in the Tegernsee Valley to donate.

Short-time work and lockdown increase neediness

It meets a great need.

"You can tell that the long period of short-time work and lockdown has increased need," says Klöcker.

Twice around Easter, the Diakonieverein opened the striped sock out of turn on Saturday so that the customers of the Gmunder Tafel can shop at another discounted price.

A symbolic euro, that's all the needy have to pay.

In the case of Tafel customers, the need is also officially proven.

During the usual opening times - Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. - such proof is not required for shopping in striped socks.

"We are moving in a field of tension," says Klöcker.

After all, money is often tight even with single parents, families and pensioners who are not considered to be needy.

Of course, there are sometimes cases in which the well-heeled are looking for chic second-hand clothing, Klöcker knows.

Addressing these people is left to the instinct of the employees.

Dedicated team sorts donated goods

Overall, the Diakonieverein employs a team of eight to sift through goods, to price them, to stock the shelves and to be there for the customers.

It has been open again since March 8th.

During the period of closure, the team was on short-time work, and goods receipt was also on hold.

A message that many donors did not allow themselves to be put off.

“We had put up a sign that we cannot accept anything.

And the sacks just piled up under the sign, ”remembers Klöcker.

So there was a lot to work on after the reopening, which was no pure joy.

“We had to sort out a lot,” reports the administration manager.

Some of it was electronic waste and it took some effort to dispose of it free of charge.

Overall, the volume of donations in the pandemic is particularly high: "Many use the time to clean out vigorously."

"Triple win-win-win situation"

Klöcker is completely convinced of the idea of the striped sock: “This is a triple win-win-win situation.” On the one hand, because people with a small budget can stock up on the necessary and beautiful there.

Second, employment in the sales team can also provide work for people who have problems looking for a job.

And thirdly, things are used again that would otherwise end up in the trash.

The latter fuels the willingness to donate, as Klöcker knows: "It's much easier to part with beautiful things when you know that someone else will enjoy them again."

The appointment arrangement

For a purchase in the striped sock is possible under 0 80 22/76 95 81.

If you then enter “3” in the selection menu, you will be connected to the department store.
