Multiple victims in a Tennessee high school shooting

2021-04-12T21:17:04.060Z

Police have cordoned off the area near the Knoxville school center and an officer is among those attacked

A shooting that occurred this Monday at an institute in Knoxville, in the state of Tennessee, has caused several victims, including a police officer, as reported this afternoon by the local police department.

The details of the attack, the number of wounded and whether there are deaths are still unknown.

The event comes weeks after two other tragic shootings, which occurred in Atlanta, Georgia, and Boulder, Colorado, which have rekindled the old debate about the possession of firearms among the civilian population.

A reunification site has been established at the baseball field behind Austin-East High School near Wilson and S. Hembree.

The Knox County Superintendent of Schools posted a message on Twitter explaining that the Austin-East Magnet High School building had been the scene of a shooting, that they were still collecting information about this “tragic situation” and that the Students “not involved” in the incident had already been transferred with their families.

At first, the students have been gathered on a baseball field.

The shooting comes four days after the president, Joe Biden, presented a package of measures to tighten control of the sale of kits to manufacture weapons at home without a serial number, denouncing the "national shame" that, in his opinion , supposes the high number of shootings that are registered each year in the United States.

Other more ambitious legislative initiatives - on assault weapons, for example - are stalled in Congress.
