On the eve of the 73rd Independence Day: 9.3 million people live in Israel

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, 74% of life in the country is Jewish, 21% Arab and 5% defined as "other".

137,000 people have been added since last year, and 16,000 immigrants have arrived in Israel.

The bureau estimates that by the turn of the century Independence Day, the population is expected to reach 15 million people

On the eve of the 73rd Independence Day to be held on Wednesday, the Central Bureau of Statistics today (Monday) published data on the total population in Israel.

The data show that the total population in the country numbers 9.327 million people, of whom 6.894 million are Jews, constituting about 74% of the population.

1.966 million Arabs constitute about 21%, and 467,000 are defined as "others" and constitute 5% of the population.



Since last Independence Day, Israel's population has grown by 137,000, an increase of 1.5%.

During this period, about 167,000 babies were born, about 16.3 thousand immigrants arrived, and about 50,000 people died.

At the establishment of the state, the population of Israel numbered 806,000.

Near the establishment of the state, the percentage of Jews was 82.1% and the percentage of Arabs was 17.9%.



According to the CBS definition, the population segment defined as "other" refers to non-Arab Christians, members of other religions and those registered as having no religious classification in the Population Registry - usually immigrants who immigrated under the Law of Return or family unification, but are not defined as Jews in the Population Registry.
