On the occasion of Independence Day, representatives of a variety of currents in Judaism - Conservatives, Orthodox, Reform and secular - held a special event yesterday (Sunday) to read the Declaration of Independence from the Western Wall.
At the event, initiated by the World Zionist Organization, 12 representatives of currents and communities in the Declaration of Independence read through unique flavors and melodies, representing the 12 tribes of Israel.
The event was attended by dozens of people who gathered in the egalitarian prayer plaza at the Western Wall, and at the same time - it was broadcast live throughout the Jewish world.
The Zionist Organization says that this is a historic event, as this is the first time the Declaration of Independence has been read from the Western Wall and it is hoped that the event will become an annual tradition.
