The event occurs in the same city and at the time that the trial for the death of George Floyd is developed after being immobilized by an agent

Hundreds of people demonstrated Sunday night in Minneapolis (Minnesota, USA) after a black citizen was shot dead by police after stopping his vehicle.

Precisely in Minneapolis the trial is being held against former agent Derek Chauvin for the death of George Floyd, on May 25 of last year.

Protesters protested outside the police station in Brooklyn Center, northwest of the city, and approximately 10 miles from where Floyd was killed.

To break up the rally, the police fired tear gas and stun grenades.

The victim, shot dead by an officer after a police check for a traffic violation, has been identified as Daunte Wright, 20 years old.

The young man phoned his mother, Katie Wright, after police stopped her vehicle for wearing an air freshener hanging from her rear view mirror (which is prohibited in the State of Minnesota).

According to the mother's version, she heard police officers tell her son to drop the phone and then one of them cut the call.

Soon after, his son's girlfriend told him that Wright had been fatally shot.

The Minnesota criminal affairs office confirmed to AFP that it is "investigating" the involvement of an officer in the Brooklyn Center shootings, but declined to identify the victim.

According to a statement from the police department, the agents ordered the driver of a vehicle to be stopped for a traffic violation.

When they discovered that he had an outstanding arrest warrant, they tried to arrest him.

The driver returned to his vehicle, and one of the officers fired his weapon, hitting the driver, who died at the scene.

The Minnesota chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union said an independent agency should investigate the incident and demanded the immediate release of any video of the shooting.

The group claimed that they suspect that the state police may have stopped Daunte Wright on the grounds of air fresheners hanging on his mirrors.

"Something that [the police] do too often to attack black people," the organization said.

After the protests, a curfew has been put in place until 6 a.m. this Monday, according to Brooklyn Center Mayor Mike Elliott.

“We want to be sure that everyone is okay.

Please be safe and go home, ”Elliot tweeted to protesters.

The death of 46-year-old George Floyd sparked an international wave of demonstrations against racism and police brutality, reaching more than 50 countries and fueling the Black Lives Matter movement.

This new episode could reignite the spark of social protest against the agents' treatment of African Americans.
