Worried about the erosion of freedoms in certain central European countries, Emmanuel Macron never has enough harsh words to denounce “illiberal democracies”.
Comparison is not right, but it would have been shameful for France to continue to give lessons in morality and good politics to its neighbors by trampling, at home, one of the fundamental pillars of democracy, namely an election.
For a year, its population has bowed, without flinching too much, to all the orders of power, even the least rational.
As if the state of health emergency, repeated several times, justified all deprivation, authorized all diktats.
It was now a question of postponing the holding of regional and departmental elections, already postponed from March to June.
The trick was rude.
The idea touched the Élysée.
Fortunately, it is not.
Democracy has the last word.
