Israel had a role in the power outage at the uranium enrichment facility at Natanz in Iran yesterday, which was caused by a large-scale explosion, the New York Times reported Monday night, citing Israeli and American intelligence sources.
Intelligence sources, who spoke to the New York Times on condition of anonymity about the covert Israeli operation, said the damage to the facility was caused by a large-scale deliberate explosion that destroyed the most secure electrical system supplying the uranium-enriching centrifuges.
It was further reported that the blast had created a severe blow to Iran's ability to enrich uranium, and that it could take the country nine months to restore production at Natanz.
The damage to the site has infiltrated uncertainty into diplomatic efforts that began last week in Vienna to salvage the 2015 nuclear deal, from which former President Donald Trump retired in 2018.
Meanwhile, Iran's leverage in renewed talks over the nuclear deal at the request of US President Joe Biden will be significantly hurt.
