Liliana Carrillo, arrested as a suspect in the stabbing deaths of her three children in Los Angeles, was involved in a dispute over custody of the children, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
Erik Denton, father of the 3 and 2-year-olds and the 6-month-old baby, said he was in a battle with Carrillo for
custody of his children
after the woman allegedly showed mental instability.
Denton filed for custody on March 1 and three days later requested a temporary emergency visitation order from the court, in addition to demanding an
evaluation of Carrillo's mental health
.
April 14 is the date that had been set for a hearing in the case, as he told the newspaper.

On March 12 and in response to the action taken by Denton, Carrillo requested a temporary restraining order for domestic violence against the father of the minors.

Carrillo was arrested on Saturday in Ponderosa, a mountain community in the Sierra Nevada more than 200 miles from Los Angeles, after having fled the scene.
According to the authorities, the woman stole a vehicle where she fled from the police.
The children's grandmother was the one who found the bodies in an apartment in the Reseda neighborhood, in the San Fernando Valley, California.
On the same day of the crime, the children's mother was described by the police as
the "sole suspect" in the murder.
Los Angeles police spokeswoman Rosario Cervantes told a news conference Saturday that Carrillo was receiving medical treatment for unspecified reasons.

The death of the little ones has shocked the entire community.
Spontaneously, the neighbors
made a small monument to commemorate the three little ones
in which they put flowers, candles and some toys.
According to CBS News in Los Angeles, Denton approached the neighborhood where the crime occurred.
The man left some balloons and portraits of his little ones in the small monument.
