In general, the elections that we organize ourselves are the only ones that we cannot lose.
The joke was circulating at Les Républicains in the summer of 2019, during the campaign to find a new boss.
Alas: the right voted this Monday to designate the new direction of the Young LR, and it appears difficult not to read the result as a snub for the direction of LR at all.
The “Nouv'LR” list led by Tarnais Guilhem Carayon won with 62% of the votes against “Jeunesse Rassemblage” by Toulousain Sébastien Canovas (38%).
The latter, however, had the support of a good part of the leadership of LR, including that of number 3 of the Aurélien Pradié party, as well as Pierre-Henri Dumont, Deputy Secretary General for Youth and in charge of the reform of the organization. of youth.
This list seemed to offer the broadest rally in terms of political line, like a Christian Jacob who in 2019 had crushed the match by casting a very broad cast.
And so an easy victory?
Not that easy.

Accusing the party leadership of "interference" in the election of his cadets, Guilhem Carayon drew the support of a larger number of young LR executives, in a campaign where invectives and stink balls flourished.
And his candidacy, ostensibly more marked on the right of the party, did not prevent a large victory.
Son of the former deputy Bernard Carayon (member of the Popular Right), he is also the spokesperson for Youth with Aubert, deputy for Vaucluse and figure of sovereignty within LR.
He was also supported by several executives of the conservative wing: the boss of senators Bruno Retailleau, the MEP François-Xavier Bellamy or the mayor of Cannes David Lisnard.
Julien Aubert is the first to react on social networks, congratulating his foal.
Perfume of revenge for the one who had failed to conquer the presidency of LR in 2019 ... and whose reciprocal enmity with Aurélien Pradié is known.
Bravo to @GuilhemCarayon, spokesperson for @JeunesAubert, who wins handily with more than 62% of the votes the election of young LR against a background of historic participation (72%) !!!
Congratulations to Sebastien Canovas, head of the opposing list, for his commitment.

An election in the form of a confrontation ground for the elders, where we have seen the balance of power reversed.
And which also confirms what is often said at LR: the activists are politically more to the right than their elders.

The party's boss, Christian Jacob, was not publicly committed to either side.
But he had received the two lists asking them, once the election was over, to hold out their hands.
To make sure, if possible, that the story ends well.
