The Memorial Day ceremony took place today (Tuesday) in the village of Arara in the Triangle, the only memorial site of its kind for Arab society.
At the event, which was initiated by the association "Together responsible for each other", was advocated memory of the fallen soldiers of Arab-Israelis with the rest of Israel's fallen soldiers.
The memorial site "Said tent" located on a hill overlooking Wadi Ara, established resident Yusuf appealed Jaja, the bereaved father of Sergeant Saeed Jaja, who fell at the age of 19 during an operation in the Gaza Strip. The monument reads: "In memory of the boys - Muslim IDF soldiers who fell in the Rafah tunnel disaster in 2004."
At the entrance to the memorial room, the names of the Arab soldiers who fell in Rafah are engraved in Hebrew and Arabic, and the Israeli flag is hung on the wall behind.
On the tombstone next to the monument were engraved the words: "Do not weep mother, do not weep father, Said tent - equality and peace."
"There is not a day that a bereaved father does not think of his son," said Jaja, determined to stick to his son's path.
He believes that Arabs in Israel should volunteer for military service following the events of October 2000 in Wadi Ara.
Jahja says he sent his sons to the IDF to change the prejudice of Israeli Jews towards Wadi Ara, and to convey a message to the Israeli public that all boys should serve and protect the country in which they live.
Said left behind parents, five brothers - Ihab, Muhammad, Ahmad, Hisham Walid, and two sisters - Rosit and Angam. Since the establishment of the state, about 150 Arab-Israeli soldiers have died in the IDF.
Today, about a thousand soldiers from the Arab sector serve in the army.

The ceremony was also addressed by Major (Res.) Hisham Abu Reya, the first Arab-Muslim officer in the IDF, who emphasized that "in their deaths, they commanded us peace," and Yosef Haddad, CEO, "Together Arabs for each other." The IDF itself is disabled by the Second Lebanon War. The event was moderated by Lorina Khatib, a member of the Druze community from the village of Samia in the Galilee, a graduate of the University of Haifa and a Foreign Ministry employee.
