The shock was great: while walking with his children in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a family man discovered an open borehole.

Big enough that a small child can slide in.

  • The memories of the tragedy in Spain where a two-year-old fell into a borehole and died are boiling up again.

  • Walkers discovered the danger spot on the Gudiberg near the Olympic ski stadium.

  • Employees of the municipal building yard react immediately and cover the open borehole again.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen

- The tragedy will not be forgotten.

And not just in Spain.

A family man from Garmisch-Partenkirchen also remembers the drama about little Julen well.

The two-year-old fell into a 25 centimeter wide, 100 meter deep borehole in 2019 - and died.

It took twelve days and eleven hours to get the boy out of it.

An action that kept the world in suspense.

No wonder that the Garmisch-Partenkirchner remembered this horror story when he discovered a borehole in the immediate vicinity of the Olympic ski stadium while walking with his children on Sunday.

He estimates this to be 20 to 25 centimeters wide.

“My one and a half year old son would have disappeared in it,” he says.

“I shouldn't even think about what could have happened.” He also saw an enormous danger for dogs in the unsecured area that was to be found next to the connection from Gudiberg to the ski stadium.

A place that is freely accessible from Wildenauer Straße “and where children can always mess around”.

The father of the family, who does not want to read his name in the newspaper, estimates the hole three to five meters deep: "I threw a stone into it."

Hole comes from test drilling for floodlight system

His assumption that this comes from a test drilling for the planned floodlight system is confirmed by town hall spokeswoman Sandra Debus.

“The cover has collapsed and will be closed immediately.

There is currently no danger to life, limb or health. "

As a precaution, the walker had already placed a bar over the hole early on Sunday evening.

He also informed the police about the danger zone.

"The colleagues immediately notified the municipal building yard's emergency service," said police spokesman Josef Grasegger from the Garmisch-Partenkirchen inspection.

Their statement that they want to immediately take care of the hole, which apparently now appeared after the snowmelt, the officials checked around 8 p.m.

"There was nothing more to be seen."

Another, much older hole has been causing a stir in the Ebersberg district for months: research is puzzling over its function.
