The areas planted with potatoes in Daraa governorate during the current agricultural season amounted to 2,670 hectares, surpassing the approved plan of 1,408 hectares by about 1262 hectares.
The head of the Agricultural Extension Department in the Daraa Agriculture Directorate, Eng. Muhammad Al-Shehadat, said in a statement to SANA's correspondent today that the increase in demand for potato cultivation is due to the most important reasons, the most important of which are the appropriate weather conditions and the achievement of an economic return on farms as a result of increased production per unit area.
Al-Shahadat explained that the potato crop cultivation in Daraa is witnessing a great development, and the farmer has modern methods of serving the crop with the availability of agricultural mechanization machines from seed to harvest in addition to modern irrigation by spraying or drip, indicating that farmers now keep seeds for the next plant, whether autumn or spring.
The area planted with potatoes in Daraa reached 2150 hectares last season, surpassing the planned 1665 hectares by 485 hectares.
