Austria's Minister of Health Rudolf Anschober resigns in the Corona crisis.

According to his own statements, he pulls the "health emergency brake".

Vienna - The Austrian Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) announced his resignation at a press conference.

The reason is that he has overworked himself in the past 15 months.

During this time there was "not a single day off completely" for him.

The consequences of this stressful situation are circulatory problems, high blood pressure and the onset of tinnitus.

He had a circulatory collapse last month, reported Anschober, and the doctors advised him to calm down.

Since there was no noticeable damage to the organs, he tried again, but the second circulatory collapse occurred last Tuesday.

In consultation with his doctors, he therefore decided to pull the "emergency brake on health" for himself.

The Green politician had recently called in sick.

Health Minister Anschober has no more strength: "I am overworked and exhausted"

With a view to a burnout suffered nine years ago, Anschober made it clear: “I know how it feels, this is not burnout.

If I were burned out, I wouldn't be standing here anymore. ”He just ran out of strength.

“I'm overworked and exhausted, that's it,” he said in conclusion.

Since the pandemic-related critical situation in Austria needed a health minister who was 100 percent fit - and he would not be that without recovery - he made the decision to resign from next Monday.

"The pandemic does not take a break, even a health minister cannot take a break," said Anschober.

But a health minister is also responsible for his own situation.

Anschober is taking time out over the next few weeks.

His successor is still unclear.

He therefore decided to resign from his position as Minister of Health and asked Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen to release him from his mandate from next week.

He will recover in the next few weeks, how things will go after that is still unclear to him, said Anschober.

He still has to stand by the government with his experience and skills.

He also wants to consider his dream of writing his first political novel.

It is still unclear who will succeed him in his office.

According to the newspaper

Presse

, the Viennese patient advocate Sigrid Pilz is among the talks, but she is not interested.

Austria's * Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) could introduce himself to the former Federal Managing Director of the Greens, Stefan Wallner.

In addition, the medical association official Wolfgang Mückstein is a speculated candidate.

For whom Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz * will decide is still unclear.
