Soon there will be a combined footpath and bike path on the northern side of the B 388 federal highway from Vierergraben to the confluence with Finkenstraße.

Eichenried - The combined footpath and bike path at the through-town of Eichenried is still picking up speed.

It had been discussed in the local council for many years - without any concrete results.

Now the first construction phase of the renewal of the through-town has begun.

Soon there will be a combined walking and cycling path on the northern side of the B 388 federal road from Vierergraben to the confluence with Finkenstraße - up to the level of the Stangl inn.

To the east of it, up to Weidenstrasse, at least the sidewalk is to be widened.

"I am very happy that we can implement the project between Vierergraben and Finkenstrasse," said Mayor Georg Nagler (SPD).

However, he points out that it will not be a separate walkway and bike path in the classic sense, but a walkway with a sign "Cyclists free".

A minimum width of 2.75 meters is required for paths of this type.

Because of this, the project had repeatedly failed in recent years because the municipality did not have the necessary land or parts in this area and could not buy everything.

Ultimately, the residents agree to surrender land

"From Vierergraben to Amselweg we always had the required 2.75 meters," explains Nagler and happily adds: "Now we also have it from Amselweg to Finkenstraße." After intensive negotiations, all of the affected residents finally agreed, reason to cede to the community.

“The talks started before Christmas,” says Nagler.

There was also a certain time pressure, "because we had to be through by the end of February".

Reason: Trees had to be felled, which according to the Federal Nature Conservation Act is not allowed from March to October.

As far as the area from Finkenstrasse to Weidenstrasse is concerned, Nagler sees no chance of building a combined footpath and cycle path.

“The 2.75 meters don't go there at all,” he states.

Sometimes there are even bottlenecks that are only 1.29 meters wide.

“Of course we would have liked to try to broaden it accordingly and achieve an expansion”, but that was ultimately not possible.

One will try to widen the sidewalk to at least two meters.

“I'm happy for every inch, but it also has to make sense,” admits the mayor, who is in constant talks.

Nagler is happy about the great willingness of the citizens to cooperate in various discussions.

However, he expressly confirms that he definitely understands residents who do not want to or cannot sell.

“Everyone has a reason for this, which is also entirely legitimate,” he clarifies.

He will also not name any names in order to protect the relevant people from possible hostility.

“In any case, I am glad that we were still able to achieve so much,” emphasizes the mayor.

Soon there will also be another site inspection with the road construction authority to look again where an expansion makes sense: "There will be no zigzag expansion, sometimes narrow and sometimes wide."

Nagler shows a possible alternative route in this area for cyclists.

"If you want to get away from the main road, you can - coming from Moosinning - turn right at Weidenstraße and then go back to the main road or the pedestrian / cycle path via Erlenstraße and Finkenstraße", recommends the mayor and says: " Practice will show whether this is accepted. "

The entire southern part of the through-town remains a sidewalk.
