Lubna Hawija, president of the Syrian Association for Thoracic Medicine and Surgery, stated that fasting for a Coronavirus patient during Ramadan depends on his health condition and severity of infection in addition to the treatment program applied to him and the evaluation of the doctor supervising this through his clinical observations, explaining that each case differs from the other according to the complications of the virus in the body .
Dr. Hawija indicated in an interview with SANA that with regard to people recovering from the disease a short time ago and their symptoms were mild to moderate and did not need to enter the hospital, they can fast and complete the treatment in proportion to the hours of fasting, as she confirmed that there is no medical objection to that unless they are They suffer from other chronic diseases that prevent them from doing so.
Dr. Hawija advised following a healthy diet during the month of Ramadan, which contributes to strengthening the body’s structure and raising its immunity by eating low-fat proteins, reducing the intake of sugars as much as possible, avoiding sugary drinks, increasing vitamins and engaging in physical activity.
As for whether continuous drinking water throughout the day prevents infection with the virus, Dr. Hawija confirmed that there is no scientific evidence proving that drinking water and fluids continuously prevents infection with the virus and cannot be classified as a preventive measure, pointing out that fasting can improve the performance of the immune system as it gives a rest For the circulatory and digestive system.
