The first and only Memorial Day ceremony in Arab society took place today (Tuesday) in Arara in Wadi Ara.
The event took place at the "Said Tent for Equality and Peace" monument, which commemorates the Arab IDF casualties, led by the "Together Arabs for Each Other" organization and in cooperation with the Coastal District Police of the Israel Police.
At the ceremony, Yusuf Jahja, the father of the late Sergeant Said Jahja, who fell in an operational activity in Rafah in 2004. Other speakers were Maj. Gen. Hisham Abu Reya, the first Arab-Muslim officer in the IDF. L, Druze social activist Lorina Khatib, and Yosef Haddad, CEO of "Together Arabs for Each Other" and an IDF invalid.
The ceremony was attended by Muslim and Christian Arabs, Druze and Jews who came to honor and commemorate the memory of IDF casualties from Arab society on the eve of Remembrance Day.
During the ceremony, four memorial candles were lit in memory of the Jewish, Muslim, Christian and Druze martyrs, and a fifth candle, a candle of hope for the unity of Israeli society.
"It is very exciting to hold the Memorial Day ceremony in Arab society," said the initiator of the ceremony, Yosef Haddad. "The memory of the Arab martyrs in the other spaces of the Israeli systems and hostilities must be respected. This is a sad and painful day for all Israeli society."
