Make sugar loafs yourself
Ilona Németh's exhibition
"Eastern Sugar - Manufactory and Archive"
in the barrel vault of the Schafhof consists essentially of two parts, the so-called manufacture and the archive.
The manufactory is a room-filling, participatory installation made up of numerous workstations, where visitors can make sugar loafs themselves.
Ilona Németh's manufactory brings memories of the past to life through the fundamental human activity of handicraft.
In the course of the exhibition, a collection of "artifacts" will be created.
The archive presents Ilona Németh's research results on the Slovak sugar factories, which she has compiled with interviews, drone recordings and photographs.
The exhibition
“Crossing Borders”
shows three artistic positions that explore, question and subversively overcome the borders in and around Europe.
The Berlin artist duo Wermke / Leinkauf, in their "overcoming exercises", in which borders are crossed and walls built, an arc from the time before the fall of the Wall to the present and thematize the wall on the former German-German border.
A guide for refugees
The Bosnian-Herzegovinian artist
Mladen Miljanoviæ
transforms depictions from military
books
into a guide for refugees to cross borders.
The British internet
artist Heath Bunting
documents his adventurous transgressions of boundaries in the real and virtual world.
Two videos with interviews as part of the “Eastern Sugar” exhibition by Ilona Németh refer to the exhibition in the barrel vault on the first floor and establish the connection between the history of the Slovak sugar factory and the changed meaning of borders in the post-reunification period.
