The head of the Iranian delegation to the nuclear talks, Abbas Arakchi, said today (Tuesday) that Tehran will begin enriching uranium to a level of 60% following the attack on the Natanz facility - the highest level it has ever reached.
To date, the level of enrichment has been 20%, in contrast to the nuclear agreement that limits Iran to only 3.67%.
Already at 20%, the transition to the 90% level required for the development of nuclear weapons is very short.
Arakchi, who also serves as Iran's deputy foreign minister, made the remarks on his arrival in Vienna, where indirect talks with the United States on its return to the nuclear deal and the lifting of sanctions are scheduled to resume tomorrow.
He added that Tehran will also install a thousand more centrifuges at the Natanz facility, which was damaged on Sunday after an operation attributed to Israel, which did not officially confirm or deny this.
The Iranian Press TV channel reported that the accelerated enrichment will begin tomorrow and that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been updated on the move. The IAEA, which oversees the nuclear deal, has not yet responded to Arakchi's statement.
Earlier in the day, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Israel had taken a "very bad gamble" and that the sabotage of Natanz would only strengthen its position in negotiations with the powers.
