A study published in the Lancet Medical Journal showed that the highly contagious mutated strain of the Coronavirus discovered in Britain does not cause more severe symptoms in hospitalized patients.
The strain, known as "B1.1.07", was first detected in Britain late last year and became the most prevalent in the United States, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The study analyzed data from a group of 496 Covid-19 patients who were admitted to British hospitals in November and December of last year and compared the results between patients with the British strain and other strains .. The researchers did not find any difference in the risk of severe symptoms, death, or other clinical outcomes.
The researchers said in the study, "Our data transmits initial reassurance that the severity of symptoms in hospitalized" B1.1.07 "strain does not differ much from the disease severity in those with other strains.
A separate study published by the same journal stated that the vaccines would be effective against the mutated British strain, due to the lack of a clear increase in the rate of reinfection with this strain when compared to other strains.
