Industry giant Klier is fighting for survival.

A tough redevelopment plan should now bring the salvation.

Wolfsburg - Germany's largest hairdressing chain Klier wants to secure their survival with a radical deforestation.

The creditors' meeting has given the go-ahead for a corresponding insolvency plan, the Wolfsburg-based company announced.

After that, a total of 500 salons are to be closed, 2100 employees have to leave.

850 salons and shops with around 6,400 employees could be saved, said company boss Michael Klier.

In view of the corona pandemic and months of closings, Klier came under severe economic pressure last year.

In December, the company filed for insolvency for the German locations and has since pushed ahead with planning a restructuring concept at full speed.

Klier bankruptcy: Unprofitable branches are closed

Klier announced that all structures, processes and locations had been checked in the past few months.

In the course of the reviews, “permanently unprofitable branches had to be closed.” In view of the noticeable decline in visitors, high rents in expensive inner-city locations had long been no longer justified.

According to Klier, there were solutions with a large number of landlords that prevented further closures.

Klier bankruptcy: hairdressing chain is considered the industry flagship

At the beginning of the insolvency proceedings, the Central Association of the German Hairdressing Trade emphasized the importance of the chain as by far the largest individual company in an otherwise rather fragmented industry.

“This is a heavyweight in this market segment,” said General Manager Jörg Müller.

Now there is a glimmer of hope.

"The Klier Hair Group is now robustly positioned and has a convincing strategy for the future," said attorney Detlef Specovius, who accompanied the restructuring process.

In addition to the locations in Germany, the Klier Group is also represented by companies in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Brands such as Essanelle or Super Cut are also included.
