Olivier Dussopt: "We will gradually disconnect aid"

INTERVIEW - The Minister of Public Accounts announces to the “Figaro” that between 2020 and 2022 the crisis will cost 424 billion euros to the State coffers.

- With the end of confinement, scheduled for the moment in early May, do you see the end of the tunnel?

The end of the tunnel is there, yes.

The goal is that at the end of the restriction period, in connection with the vaccination, we return to a normal activity and life.

We are aware of having demanded great efforts from the French;

we have also done everything to support them.

This had an unprecedented economic cost in 2020: 158 billion euros.

It is not a surprise, it is the budgetary translation of whatever it costs.

The year 2020, however, ended with a less significant deterioration than what we had feared: the recession reached 8.2% instead of the 11% expected at the end of last year, and the public deficit 9.2% of GDP instead of 11.3%, with more dynamic tax revenues than expected.

350,000 jobs were cut, while there was talk of 900,000 job destruction.

As for the purchasing power of households, it increased by 0.6% on average
