Build a culture of innovation
Dr. Luming Huo, the director of artificial intelligence and robotics technology platforms and precision engineering at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park Company, has many years of experience in technology development.

The "Urban Innovation and Technology Challenge" sponsored by the Innovation and Technology Commission and co-organized by the Science and Technology Park this time is about how to use innovative technology to improve the lives of the people in response to the social problems caused by the recent epidemic.
In addition, I also hope to improve the public’s understanding of innovative technology at the same time, so that they believe that technology can have an impact on society and build a culture of positive innovation for everyone in the long run.
Dr. Huo said that the "City Innovation and Technology Challenge" hopes to enhance the public's understanding of innovative technology, thereby enhancing the innovation and technology atmosphere in Hong Kong society.
For immediate problems
The competition has two main themes: "Environmental Sustainability" and "Maintaining Social Connections" to address the various problems that may arise during the epidemic.
"During the epidemic, everyone bought more takeaways and produced a lot of solid waste." Dr. Huo hopes to arouse public attention, try to reduce waste from the source, or think about how to transform waste into recycling.
The social distancing brought about by the epidemic has gradually alienated people from one another, and there has been less meeting between relatives and friends.
"In particular, disadvantaged groups such as the elderly have a weak grasp of technology and may not even be able to afford it," said Dr. Huo.
Therefore, it is more necessary for the participants to show more creativity and more thoughts.
Recognize the direction of development
As early as 15 years ago, Chen Daren (George) and his partners wanted to reduce the serious environmental pollution caused by the use of plastic tableware, so they established Huanke Innovation Ecoinno to develop a lunch box that can be naturally decomposed.
He said with a smile that there was relatively little support for entrepreneurs at the time, making them more resource-constrained, but this instead made George learn to be flexible.
"Facing the dilemma of limited resources does not mean stopping and not solving it. It is more important to understand the crux of the problem and address the key issues."
George, as the "big brother in innovation and technology," suggested that you have to clearly understand what problems you want to solve before starting a business.
More and more young people now want to start their own businesses and use their knowledge to change Hong Kong and the world.
As a "predecessor" George believes that before you start, you must first clearly understand the problem you want to solve.
"The first thing you need to know is whether the problem really exists and whether you can think of a better solution. This is Innovation. There are too many problems in society at present; the more problems there are, the more room you will have to solve them. "
George (right) believes that innovation and technology emphasizes the ability to understand problems.
George said that he very much agrees with the "Urban Innovation and Technology Challenge" to encourage innovation and technology.
He believes that innovation and technology is not about academic qualifications, but the ability to understand problems.
"This competition let everyone know that they can participate in innovation and technology. Everyone can have their own ability to solve problems and change cities."
Dr. Huo pointed out that the Science Park will arrange different trainings for participants in the competition.

Dr. Fok pointed out that he understands that not everyone has a good grasp of scientific and technological knowledge. Therefore, the Science Park will arrange different technical trainings for participants in the competition, and will also invite successful entrepreneurs and scientists to share their entrepreneurial and scientific research experience.
