Police officers burned in Viry-Chatillon: from 12 to 25 years of imprisonment required on appeal for the attackers

2021-04-13T18:43:53.419Z

The prosecution on Tuesday asked for the conviction of 12 of the 13 young people prosecuted for attempted voluntary homicide on four police officers on the 8th.

The verdict of the first trial, at the end of 2019, had left the civil parties and the prosecution unsatisfied.

Eight of the thirteen young accused had been sentenced to 10 and 20 years of criminal imprisonment for having tried to kill the police on October 8, 2016 in Viry-Chatillon (Essonne).

Two officials were seriously burned by Molotov cocktails and two others were injured by throwing stones and beatings.

Five acquittals were also pronounced, while the ministry had requested sentences of 20 to 30 years in prison for all the defendants.

This Tuesday evening, the requisitions in this second appeal trial, which opened on March 2 in Paris, fell.

This time, the Advocate General called for sentences ranging from 12 to 25 years of criminal imprisonment for twelve of them, and an acquittal.

"These requested sanctions appear to us too low"

"The indictment was solid and structured, but on arrival, the scale of the penalties requested is a little disconcerting", comments hot Thibault de Montbrial, Jenny's lawyer, a seriously burned policewoman.

"It seems, for some defendants, out of step with their dangerousness and the gravity of the facts," he said.

“The lives of our colleagues are ruined.

Physically and psychologically, they are affected, deplores Claude Carillo, departmental secretary of the Alliance union.

The penalties are very different although they all acted in commando.

They did not express any regrets and in view of the barbarity of the acts committed, these requested sanctions appear to us too low.

This is a very bad message sent to police attackers.

Police officers burned in Viry-Chatillon: Frédérick Petipermon, lawyer "made in Grigny"

On October 8, 2016, the four police officers were on duty in Viry-Chatillon in two cars, in front of a camera pole which had been damaged several times, just in front of the sensitive city of Grande Borne.

This camera had been installed in order to put an end to the numerous violence suffered by motorists who stopped at this traffic light.

The drivers were taken to task by young people from the Grande Borne who smashed a window in order to steal handbags or other objects lying on the passenger seat.

Those or those who tried to resist were severely beaten.

A gang of fifteen young people from the city then decided to attack the police who disturbed their traffic.

That afternoon, they had arrived masked, taking care to bypass the police vehicles to arrive from behind.

They smashed the windows of both cars and threw flaming Molotov cocktails at the officers, blocking the doors.

When the officials managed to extricate themselves from the burning interiors, they received stones and beatings, even though two of them, Jenny and Vincent, were on fire.

The verdict is expected overnight from Saturday to Sunday.
